back to Utah

We went to Grandma Lucy’s home to say bye before heading home. It sounds so nice to say going home! We haven’t had a home of our own for over a month!

This boy is looking good in red.

Back in Utah and almost home! And do you see that truck Laun’s driving?! That’s right, he fixed it and drove it back!

another surgery

Today we left very early for Tucson. I think our family has done enough traveling back and forth from Arizona and Utah!

Carter needed  a little break from his car seat, so we took a pit stop.

I feel a little somber and worried this morning, but I need to stay hopeful. It’s so hard seeing your baby go through physical issues, but we are beyond blessed that this is the extent of his problems. Laun reading to Carter before we talk to the doctor.

Dr. Vincent came to talk with us and Carter’s hip is indeed out. It’s not at all where it should be and is far out the back side. He’s wondering if the extreme casting was part of the issue. It’s hard because Carter is an unusual case. Most kids with dislocated hips just use the brace and it works and if that doesn’t than 1 surgery typically works, so Carter’s hip is especially difficult to fix. Dr. Vincent is going to stick a pin through this time to help the ball and socket to stay in the right place. The pin will be poked through the skin and the end will stick out of the skin. Thankfully, we won’t see the pin sticking out of the leg, since the body cast will cover it. Poor boy!

This boy loves sticking his hands down his cast.

Poor kid, he’s practically in a split position.

I’m so glad that it’s Saturday and Laun can be here with us.

Carter is trying out the red cast this time. If you notice the left leg, thigh area of the cast, bumps out. It sticks out because that is where the pin is. This cast is less extreme than the last one, more of a squat position than the splits.

Love Carter’s wild hair! It might be time for a haircut.

Do you want to know what it feels like coming off of anesthesia?

Miserable…like this:

Back to Show Low, only to take off tomorrow for more driving. I don’t know how Laun physically keeps up with all the driving.

I was beat tonight and thank heavens for Anna and Jennette who packed up our stuff for me. I’m forever in debt to so many people! Love my family and friends!

rollin’

So we have some sad news today. Carter got an x-ray at the Show Low Hospital and we found that his hip dislocated again, even with the body cast on. I was pretty disappointed with the news. Laun helped me to calm down though. I just need to stay positive. Dr. Vincent wants us to come to Tucson tomorrow so he can put Carter under and decide what to do. So once again, we are leaving our older kids in Show Low with family and heading to Tucson early in the morning.

On a positive note, Carter learned how to roll over in his cast today!

Thanksgiving

Since we were traveling far, we didn’t cook any food. Laun stopped by the Chinese Cultural Center for a bunch of sodas to take for the Thanksgiving meal.

Thanksgiving was at Ryan and Kami's. We had 2 turkeys and they were so good.

The Larsen’s turkey was huge!

We had quite the spread.

The guys and kids went down to the ponds.

Jennette sent me these pictures of when our kids were living in Show Low.

Here’s Porter helping Alden with Math. I love Porter’s hands.

I’m so thankful that my kids were taken care of while I was in Phoenix and Laun was in Utah.

Beaver and Show Low

Today Laun had to work in Beaver, so we all went, since we will leave from there to Show Low for Thanksgiving.

I took the kids to the Cache Valley Cheese Outlet- DFA Mart. We got some squeaky cheese and ice cream.

Then we played at a park for awhile and then headed to Arshel’s CafĂ© for lunch.

Then we drove around and went up B mountain, until Laun was done with work.

We found gummy snakes at the gas station. I got the kids these years ago when we lived back in Idaho in 2008, so the boys were pumped.

family is everything

This morning the kids and I met up with Richard’s family and Laura’s family at one of Richard and Martha’s friends homes in Provo. We had the most delicious pastries from Provo Bakery.

Then Richard took Mabel, Ben and Clayton to the Provo Temple for baptisms for the dead. Clayton was excited to go to a temple that he hadn’t been to before.

Then later today Richard’s family came to our home again. They helped us set up beds and organize, it was so helpful.

We had to get a picture of Mabel with Carter, since she was also in a body cast as a baby for a dislocated hip. too bad we didn’t get a picture of me in there, too. All the hipsters.

Here’s a picture of Mabel as a baby in her cast.

And here’s one of me as a little girl, in one of my many casts.

Tonight for dinner we went to the Krishna Temple, In Spanish Fork.

Dinner was vegan food.

We got to take a little look around the temple and it is crazy how different it was from an LDS temple. It just increased my testimony that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church. I’m thankful for the gospel and the knowledge that I have.
