This poor little piggy didn’t go to the market, didn’t’ stay home and didn’t have roast beef…it was dinner

Laun just got released as Ward Mission Leader, but he still helped out with the ward event since it was his idea. Tonight was an awesome ward activity. Not only did we bring roasted pig to the potluck, there was also a blue grass band. Lots of non-members came and it was a great night.

 

Lucy was in town, so she got to help with all the pig roasting.

Prepping the pig with a seasoning rub. Yes, that is a whole pig you see there on my kitchen table.

Laun wrapped the meat in a sheet, so it was ready to put in the pit.

Clayton went along with Laun last night to roast the pig…they put it in a pit and then it had to cook all night.

 

Today he took the meat out of the pit and brought it home for us to shred and prepare for dinner.

Awe…look at my prego belly sticking out.

We shredded half the pig and the other half left whole for people to pick off their own meat it they like.

The meat was very tasty.

I found this little jewel the other day while organizing. I think this is what Marlee gave to Porter on his birthday. M for Marlee, P for Porter and H for Hall…it looks like miles per hour to me:) This girl loves writing letters.

welder

Laun finally bought a welder, after wanting one for over a decade. He’s already used the welder plenty…like everyday since he’s gotten it.

He welded this sweet camping grill that can change heights (depending on how high your fire is) and tried it out tonight.

It worked like a charm.

Laun can seriously do anything…he continually amazes me.

Porter finished skinning the snake…it’s either a diamondback or Mohave rattlesnake. Laun caught it in the desert and Porter was excited to have a snake skin.

The only good thing about being a high risk prego lady is that I get an ultra sound every visit.

On 8/12 the baby looks more like an alien than a baby.

On 8/23 it looks like I am in fact having a baby and not an alien. I love the profile shots.

I love seeing this baby and can’t wait to find out if it is a boy or girl. The bummer about this last ultra sound was that they saw more fluid than they like, so now I have to get some blood work done to make sure the baby is okay. They are checking for lots of things, but one of the main things is down syndrome. We will love this baby no matter what, but I am anxious for the results.

Sunday drive to Madera Canyon and prickly pears

Marlee’s been to get prickly pears before, but she may have been too young to remember. She got this prickly pear picking down and loved it.

Porter and Clayton are long time pros:)

This prickly pear didn’t work out, it looks like a prickly pear and cactus pad all in one.

I love the inside of prickly pears, such a cool color.

Laun sliced this one so we could taste the center.

There was plenty to pick.

Tyler was in town, so he joined us.

 

Then we drove to another spot to have a cookout.

There’s nothing quite like sitting by a fire.

Laun is the master chef-he’s grilling chicken.

Dinner was chicken, beans and carrots.

As always, the boys caught plenty of creatures.

The kids were riding in the bed of the truck down the dirt road when the tarantula that was caught earlier started escaping from the bucket. It understandably freaked Marlee out to see a spider getting loose near her and she rode inside the truck from then on out.

The sunset was amazing.

Even night time doesn’t stop us, we had to get some more prickly pears. I guess we should remember that we have to process all of these.

Catching more creatures.

We got home and put the kids to bed and then Laun started processing the prickly pears.

Here is some of the prickly pear juice, such a pretty color. We will use this juice to make jelly and syrup.
