Then we headed out to UofA’s old dairy. Clayton was excited to take his new blow gun.
The rest of the day we chilled out, except for Laun…he headed back to work.
Sydney Carter Marlee Cooper Porter Clayton Catherine Laun
Today we went to the boys soccer games. Our neighbor Carlos joined us. Marlee chatted everyone’s ear off that she could find to listen to her. She reminds me of someone…hmmmm.
I took Clayton to his game, while Laun took Porter. Clayton had a great game.
He seems to like this move:
I love the coaches shirts: THEY PLAY-I COACH-YOU CHEER (sometimes Laun & I do a little more than just cheer, oops).
The kids always love running through their tunnel of fans (aka family & friends).
Their team had a huge win, which is great because they had a pretty bad game last week.
We caught the end of Porter’s game. The other team had some giants for players. Check out how tall #11 is & I didn’t even get his whole head in the picture. The team played pretty dirty & one kid even full out pushed Porter.
Nothing stops Porter though, even if he falls, he gets right back up.
They lost their game, but they played really well. I love how intense this kid is on the soccer field.
Today we went to UofA to witness a NASA jet carry the shuttle across the sky. It is pretty cool to see the shuttle that has been in space. We went to the very top of a parking garage to get a close look.
You can see it in the distance, I love how you can see people on the rooftops watching the same moment.
This was what UofA looked like from the parking garage we were on.
It was so cool watching it come in. Look at all those people to the left on the rooftop.
Here is a similar shot, just zooming out.
Sean & Cisco (grad students) came with us. Sean is in the yellow shirt to the left in the photo…taking a picture with his phone.
A close up view-
The boys running to get another view of the shuttle.
Marlee was at preschool, so only the boys came with us.
It was neat to be part of the huge sea of people that were watching this event. It makes me proud to be an American.
Today there was lots of cooking in the kitchen. I hope that my kids leave the house not only knowing how to cook, but loving it. Clayton helped me make some chocolate chip scones for lunch, which really ended up being Linner (around 3pm instead). He put in both pans of scones at once, so the bottom pan came out with burnt bottoms. I let him know that is wasn’t a big deal & that now he knows that you only want one sheet in at a time. He is a great helper in the kitchen.
Porter loved the scones so much that he asked if I could make them everyday…I don’t think so.
I have way too many other recipes off Pinterest that I still need to try.
For dinner, Marlee helped me make homemade flour tortillas.
covered in flour-
Then we cooked some like normal tortillas & fried some others, along with corn tortillas.
Laun grilled chicken & we had beans, guacamole & salsa to go on top, so good.
It was delicious-
Marlee loves sour cream.
Anyone who has ever been in Joy School as a preschooler probably remembers the song: Here Comes Gunny Man. Gunny man (referring to a Gunny sack), comes & eats up any toys that are left out. This just motivates children to clean-up, so that they don’t loose their toys. Well, I have been having problems recently with trying to get Marlee to remember to clean-up after herself. Which made remember the Gunny Man. I decided to turn a pillow case into Gunny Man, hoping this would motivate Marlee to put up her toys. When I explained who the Gunny Man was & that she would start loosing her toys if she didn’t clean them up, she freaked. Not about the cleaning up part, about the Gunny man. She saw that pillow case & it scared her ( I know, my art isn’t great) & she started asking who he was & where I was going to put him, etc. She was a frightened mess. I didn’t want to drop the whole idea, but I knew I would give her nightmares if I didn’t think of something fast. I asked her if I should make a new one, a girl instead. She liked that idea & asked me to name it Belle & put her in a yellow dress. I’m pretty sure Belle looks as freaky as my first attempt. Too bad I am not as creative as my sister Laura. Anyways, I informed her that Belle loves for everything to be clean & that she would get Marlee’s toys that were left out (put them in the pillow case). I let Marlee know that to earn her toys back she would have to do chores. She told me that she doesn’t know how to do chores & wondered if her toys would be sent to DI (ha ha). Finally, Marlee agreed to all this & I think it will actually work. Wow…girls are so different than boys!
Today isn’t actually her birthday, it was weeks ago. We had a pasta dinner with garlic bread.
The boys love to light the birthday candles.
Surprisingly, Marlee didn’t help Darleen blow out the candles…that is a small miracle.
Peach cobbler with ice cream.
Where there is a soccer ball, there is a Porter. This boy is such a focused player & never gives up. He is so fun to watch.
Go #4! Go Green Hornets!
Marlee likes to hang out with the siblings of the soccer players.
Half time-
Still going strong.
Porter scored a goal, too bad I don’t have a picture of it. I get a little too excited to snap a picture. He also scored a goal in last weeks game; I think he’s going to have a great season.
After every game they have the parents form a tunnel for the kids to run under…the kids love it.
I love Porter’s grin as he runs through.
After the game the kids went to the playground for a bit.
Marlee went to work with Laun tonight & sat on a stool as Laun milked the cows. She made sure to tell him what he is doing wrong & what he should be doing- ha ha! I guess it wore her out because she crashed on the couch before eight o’clock.
